Great is His Faithfulness

Another lap quilt finished - another freestyle scrappy quilt in greens and blues. And once again, I have added God's Holy word to the quilt....

Another older WIP finished!

Slowly working my way thru older WIPs - this Iris & Goldfinch Welcome wallhanging I painted/made two or three years ago. Feels good to get some things finished!

Finishing up a small lap quilt now also - and THEN I am ready to mount my hummingbird quilt on the gammil. Just added borders to it this week - but it was something I sewed over 6 years ago!

Pink & Teal LogCabin

So difficult to photo soft pastels - this is a beautiful, soft, feminine quilt in Pinks and Teals made by Suzie. She wanted it to stay soft - pliable - after quilting, so I used big, long feathers and a kind of wonky loop and curl. I used pink thread on the pink and teal thread on the teal - the back is a soft pastel teal - and both colored threads look good on it!
In my humble opinion - if a quilt is truly going to be USED on a bed, I think how the back of it looks is so important - strong, dark threads on a light background almost never look good - it is jarring to see - and when you turn down the bed to climb in, I want that turn down to be pleasant to see also. These 2 colors of thread work great on this back!
Tried taking this picture in dappled sunlight - trying to make more of the quilting show up.

Barbie Turns 50

I painted and pieced this small wallhanging a few years ago in response to a quilting challenge when Barbie turned 50. This is my attempt to show what Barbie has seen in the mirror as she has grown older.
........at 20, she still has her 'Barbie-doll' figure
........at 30, her waist isn't as thin - but she still sees her 'Barbie-doll' figure
........at 40, with just a few too many sweets thru the years, she has gained a few pounds, a few body parts are starting to sag and of course she has the 'Jennifer Aniston haircut' - didn't we all? - but she still HOPES that she sees her 'Barbie-doll' figure
........at 50, after 10 more years of sweets and gravity, her body has changed a lot - but she now sees herself clearly in the mirror - and that is OK with her!
I hope this has made you laugh -

Gradation

A fast quilt top - literally pieced in a day - using my green scraps and green charms. Used very little green yardage - 99% just scraps! This is why I keep my scraps but I sometimes wish I didn't....
It finished at 40x57. To add a bible verse to it, I did a bible search on 'green' and used the 23rd Psalm - he makes to lie in green pastures.

Trying to use bits and pieces I have made but not finished, I dug out some handpainted leaves. Trying to add to it, I have pulled a lot of warm lights to darks, mostly yellows and oranges to stay with the autumn theme of the handpainted pieces. Arranged them in order of value in picture above - which btw cutoff the darks, there are still 4 or 5 more pieces to the right.

I am piecing some leaf blocks. I am picking a fabric, moving to the right by 2 or 3 steps, pick another and so on till I have 4 fabrics. Below are two blocks that I have in the works so far using this technique. A fun technique that I haven';t used before - inspired by Jinny Beyer.

Recent Quilting

A beautiful wallhanging made by Dolores. I took this picture in the morning sun, hoping the quilting would show - so hard to photograph quilting on dark fabrics. I added a diamond in the square with my quilting - lots of feathers, some stippling. This quilt measure 36x36 = I used a little over 3 bobbins on it - lots of thread!
Her applique is edged with a technique new to me - it is an iron on polyester ribbon - supposed to be permanent - beautiful effect.
Another beautiful quilt by Dolores - the flower added is her own design - just sets this quilt off beautifully - and such a pleasure to work on. I put feathers in the border with a dark grape thread then used a light purple for the center of the quilt. It is a large lap quilt so to keep it soft to snuggle, I did a loose allover.

And I love the backing fabric she used!
Some fun and adorable childrens quilts made by Quida - so fun to work on also!

:Love the eyes - yes, they are fabric applique.
Super cute dalmation in the back of the firetruck and love the water hoses - the spray of water is so cute!

Pillow Covers for Aunt Jean

Made from workshirts worn by her brother - my Uncle Jasper. The smaller one with chickens is just a quick whimsy one - just for fun. Uncle Jasper was so fun to visit on his farm and he always had chickens!

A fun blog I just found, Quilt Story - and their Fabric Tuesdays! I have linked with this blog - so click and enjoy!
